Recent Transport CCTV Projects

Major Communications Multinational uses Digital Grape to validate surveillance systems design for $Bn City Wide transport network.

In 2012, Digital Grape Business Services were retained by a major multinational communications systems manufacturer to review the design and procurement of a citywide surveillance system that was part of their overall communications package for a new metro network.

The surveillance aspects of this project were a cornerstone element of the $Bn bid and Digital Grape Business Services was selected to review the design, systems architecture and compliance aspects of the project, based on our expertise in transport related homeland security projects, experience in developing control room solutions that integrate multiple systems and understanding of current international standards.

With over 200 systems drawings covering all aspects of the systems design, we reviewed all aspects of the systems design and validated the selection of the type, make and capabilities of each camera in the network. Link budget calculations were made based on compliance with international standards in the transport industry. Customer requirements for design of systems to cover all areas of public space in the new transport systems as well as being able to be used for recognition of individuals in certain parts of the stations and platforms such as at barriers and ticket counters.

Digital Grape's engineers, all of chartered engineer status, cross checked all aspects of the design and in a number of cases increased the numbers of cameras, types of lenses and number of IP switches to ensure that the systems was both capable of meeting the customers requirements, but also had a degree of scalability included.

Driver Only Operation (DOO) capabilities were included in the design on the platforms as well as in the rail car cabs as were public space and retail space surveillance capabilities.

Assessments were made of the Control Room architectures and use of either VMS or PSIM software technologies and integration with existing legacy Analogue CCTV systems from other parts of the rail network.

The 1700 cameras systems, having 7 control rooms and a dedicated fibre and RF backhaul infrastructure connecting these nodes across a major international capital, including both local and NAS storage, is currently in build and will be operational in the next year.
